Research is the foundation of all our activities. While most of the methodologies used by Genetech have been researched and developed by Genetech, research is constantly being conducted to optimize and improve our methods. Genetech has a not-for-profit research division known as Genetech Research Institute (GRI), which is managed by a Board of Trustees and the Director of Research is Dr. Dharshan De Silva.
Dr. De Silva is an immunologist who moved from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, to Genetech after having pursued his undergraduate, postgraduate and post doctoral studies in the USA. He is the main administrator of research grants at Genetech Research Institute.
The Board of Trustees consists of Mr. Dhammika Gunasekera, Prof. Aravinda De Silva (University of North Carolina), Prof. Gaya Ranawaka (Open University of Sri Lanka) and Dr. Neil Fernandopulle (former Senior Scientist of Genetech) who serve on an honorary basis.
GRI is the pioneer not-for-profit private scientific research facility in Sri Lanka, and has in its short history been able to receive research grants from national and international granting bodies. Our research facility also welcomes independent researchers, undergraduate and graduate research students. We actively take part in scientific sessions and symposia locally and internationally.
