The late Maya Gunasekara
Genetech was founded by Dr. Maya B. Gunasekera, who obtained her doctorate from the National Institute of Medical Research, UK., and was a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Colombo. She was responsible for introducing Molecular Biology and Gene Technology to the curriculum of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. She was one of the pioneers in the use of DNA testing in forensic casework in Sri Lanka. She also developed a new molecular method for the detection of the dengue virus. Dr. Maya Gunasekera passed away in April 2006.
Dhammika N Gunasekera
Genetech is owned by Dhammika N. Gunasekera, an old boy of Royal College (1968-1981) , an alumnus of the University of Colombo (1981-1984) and of Imperial College, London (1986-1989), UK and passed finalist of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.He is the son of Mr U.N. Gunasekara, pioneered chartered engineer and construction professional and the grandson of Sir Ernest De Silva, philanthropist and founder chairman of the Bank of Ceylon and has roots of plumbago mining, spice exporting and plantation ownership going back to early 19th century Sri Lanka.
Neil Fernandopulle
Dr Neil Fernandopulle is a trustee of the Genetech Research Institute. He has a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Colombo, specifically in the field of forensic DNA typing. He has post doctoral experience from Stanford University, USA in the field of Molecular Anthropology. He is also a trained assessor for the ISO 15189 Quality System.

Dharshan De Silva
Dharshan De Silva currently heads the Genetech Research Institute. He completed his PhD in Immunology at Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine, USA. This was followed by research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, USA. His current research focuses on the Dengue virus and the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He is involved with managing applications of grants related to Genetech.
Ruwan Illeperuma
Dr. Ruwan Illeperuma is the most experienced scientist in Sri Lanka in the field of Molecular Forensics. He is serving as the head of forensic section at Genetech. He is a former Fulbright scholar and earned his PhD from the University of Colombo for the research he completed at the University of Washington, USA. He is widely published and active as a lecturer for the Police on handling DNA evidence in criminal investigation. The focus of his research is on genetic genealogy and molecular anthropology of the Sri Lankan populations including the Veddas of Sri Lanka.
Dhammika Seneviratne
Dhammika Seneviratne is Genetech's most experienced scientist in the field of molecular diagnostics. He completed his PhD research at Genetech registered under the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka.

Nandika Perera
Nandika Perera is in charge of DNA typing for parentage testing at Genetech. He is also involved with diagnosis of genetic disorders, Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) testing, Infectious diseases and is a lecturer on the courses conducted at Genetech. He has BSc Special and MSc degrees in molecular biology and Biochemistry from the University of Colombo. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Chemistry, Sri Lanka.(nandikasp_hotmail.com)
Samudi N. K. Mohotti
Samudi N.K. Mohotti is a BSc graduate from the University of Colombo. She performs and overlooks the entire process of parentage testing work at Genetech.
Anira Fernando
Anira Fernando obtained her Bachelor of Science Honours in Biochemistry and Master of Research in Structural Biology from the University of London, UK. She is currently conducting research at Genetech for her PhD in Immunology from the University of Colombo. Her current research focuses on Dengue. She works on foreign funded projects and oversees work at the Research Institute laboratory. In addition she is a lecturer for courses conducted at Genetech (anira_genetechsrilanka.com)

Suraj Goonawardhana
Suraj Goonawardhana has a degree in Genetics from Bangalore, an Advanced Diploma in Business Management from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) and is also currently doing a MPhil at University of Colombo. He was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship to follow a MSc in Structural Molecular Biology at Birbeck College, University of London. He is involved in forensic DNA typing and veterinary molecular diagnostics at Genetech and involved in marketing of Genetech products. (suraj_genetechsrilanka.com)
Ishara Pethum Herath

Imesh de Silva
Imesh de Silva has a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya. He is currently doing his M Phil research at Genetech. Saroopa Samaradivakara
Saroopa Samaradivakara obtained a Bachelor of Science in Genetics from the University of Bangalore. She works on agricultural biotechnology related research work done at Genetech including DNA Barcoding projects of all species. She has training at the Smithsonian Institute, USA, in plant DNA barcoding. She is currently doing her MPhil research at University of Peradeniya/Genetech. (saroopa_genetechsrilanka.com)
Manisha Gunasekera
Manisha Gunasekera obtained her BSc (Hons) in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Colombo. She is currently awaiting results of the final evaluaton of her PhD thesis which was on sustainable insect resistance in local rice varieties. Shaki Alahakoon obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from University of Bangalore, India.
